2021-22 School Year: What were the backgrounds of Simpson County School District students?

Black students made up 44.3% of the 3,146 students enrolled in Simpson County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 14% decrease from the previous school year.

Mendenhall High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 557 students.

A snapshot of Simpson County School District schools showed 44.3% of students were Black, 36.5% were white, 1.3% were multiracial, and 1.2% Hispanic.

Simpson County School District roughly covers six schools within Simpson County and has a main office in Magee.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
